Don’t Wait to Obey!
Do you know what it actually looks like to obey the voice of God? Cause I'm not so sure. Sometimes I have this dreamy idea that when I step out in obedience, I will feel like Wonder Woman hurling past all the hiding men to save the day. Don't get me wrong, there are times that we know that we know. But let's be honest, most times, we're stepping out in blind faith, praying we heard right.
Am I the only one that prays that one last desperate prayer before stepping out, "Lord, if this is not you, please slam this door in my face, NOW!" or my famous go-to request, "Lord, could you send me just ONE more sign before I step out?"
It doesn't matter if you have been walking with Jesus 2 days or 2 decades, hearing and obeying His voice can get messy. It does not require a whole lot of talent, but it will demand loads of trust. Most of us get the command, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). However, I personally have found the breakdown to be in my ability to trust that I can hear Him.
What if I step out and that wasn't even Him? Is this prophetic or presumption? These questions reveal where I do not trust Him to craft my ears to hear Him as I sit with Him every day. I actually have more faith in my inability to hear Him that I do in His ability to make me hear Him. This, my friend, is pride. Here is where I must trust!
"Morning by morning, He awakens my heart. He opens my ears to hear His voice, to be trained to teach." Isaiah 50:4
Choose Trust. Trust that today as you position your heart before Him, He is filling your heart with His desires, your mind with His thoughts and your ears with His voice! Trust MORE in His ability to speak to you, than in your ability to miss it!
